Meat and song- throughout the ages they have gone hand in hand. This Saturday night, March 24, at 7:30 at 6 Elmer St in Madison, we are trying something different- and epic - in our events space. Our pal and Madison resident Jim Conroy graciously offered to be the MC for a karaoke night. That's something that should make you go hmmm. Conroy is known to many as funny guy, voice actor, guy with the beard in the AT&T commercials or as his bio on IMDb.com says, "Jim Conroy is an actor and writer, known for Rio 2 (2014), FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman(2006) and Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)." There you have it. Good stuff, Jim! But to us, he is a bbq guy- plain and simple. Albeit a fun one. So in other words, the perfect fit to host our first annual Karaoke and BBQ Night. We asked Jim a few questions about what he foresees for the evening, and what his BBQ preferences are. Here goes...
Q: Jim- What do you foresee for the evening? Will our local friends and acquaintances take to the stage fearlessly and hopefully shamelessly?
A: Karaoke is Kryptonite to anyone on their third drink. That's where the bold song choices come in. For those who attend, there's meat, music and two microphones. Bring it.
Q: What advice do you have for the participants in regards to karaoke, BBQ, and life in general?
A: In regards to Karaoke, you're not as good as you think you are. But you're not as bad as you think people think. BBQ is taste on steroids. Have fun. We're all beginning to rot.
Q: If you could perform any karaoke song, in front of a live, barbecue-eating audience, what would it be?
A: Thriller. But it's too high.
Q: What is your favorite Daddy Matty's dish and when did you first try it?
A: Brisket. At the home of the man himself after he brought the black behemoth to town where the meat gets its cook on.
Q: What do you hope will be the takeaway from this special evening, both for the vocally talented, and the taste-bud driven?
A: We hope word will get around that this is the new joint in town where the good people of Madison can get their groove on.
